It was only last week I told you that I’m always looking forward to September here on Lanzarote and it looks like this year also September won’t let us down. The first few days here on the island couldn’t have been better. Blue skies, hardly any wind and with that unforgettable sunsets. When the sun is in it’s last few hours the change in light is just spectacular. Everywhere you can see people getting their cameras out trying to capture that magic moment when the sun starts to disappear behind the horizon. On this weeks photograph you see the beautiful beach Famara at low tide. Have a look at last weeks post if you don’t know why this beach is especially pretty at low tide. With the impressive cliffs of the Famara range in the back the view on this photograph is over the huge sandy beach towards the volcano of the little village Soo on the right and the peaks of the Timanfay National Park in the center of the picture. Being at Famara beach on a day like this is pure magic so if you are here on the island right now you should not miss out on this. Go for a walk, you can leave your car in the village and walk to the other end of the beach which, depending on how fast you go of course, takes you easily an hour return. And don’t forget your camera as you will regret it if you leave it at home.
Talking about cameras: I want to share a little tip with you about a neat little technique how to capture beautiful sunsets with your camera. So if you think your sunset pictures are not coming out as you remember have seeing them, try this. First of all check if your flash is turned off. This is a common mistake I see. In general, taking landscape pictures, the flash is useless. This little tiny light built into your camera does not have the power to light the entire scene in front of you. But your camera does not know that and so it thinks: “Oh, there is the flash helping me to light up the scene.” And the cameras little brain changes the settings and out comes a picture which most of the times will be underexposed. So as a general rule of thumb when it is coming to landscape pictures – Turn off your flash. Once you are done look onto your cameras display (or viewfinder if you have one) and aim it just a little bit over the setting sun. That means on your display the globe of the sun should not be visible. Now press your shutter button half way. Your camera now takes a reading of the light in the picture and adapts the setting for the shot accordingly. Now recompose your shot without letting go that shutter button yet. Once you are happy with the composition you see on screen you press your shutter bottom completely and take the picture. Try it a couple of times and compare it to the sunset pictures you have taken before. Any improvement? If you like to see some of my sunset pictures you can visit my sunset pictures gallery.
Have a great week!

Stunning photo Dani
I really noticed the change in light last week – the visible detail was just incredible, it was like seeing Lanzarote again for the first time. Just to look at the houses, landscapes and views as I was travelling around was breath taking.
I love September in Lanzarote.
